Ian Williams ist in der Match Racing Weltmeisterschaft regelmässig auf den vordersten Rängen zu finden. Er stieg bereits 1994 als Junior ins Match Racing ein und gewann in diesem Jahr und 1995 die Juniorenweltmeisterschaften im Match Racing. Seit 2003 segelt er in den Top Ten der Weltrangliste mit und konnte 2007 und 2008 den Weltmeistertitel holen. Neben seiner Segelkarriere, promovierte er als Jurist. Ian Williams grösster Traum ist ein Engagement in der Königsklasse, im America’s Cup, und diesen auch zu gewinnen.
